It’s summertime, and while Charlotte has a great list of patios to check out there is something about grabbing a bite from one of the many food trucks around the city. There are 5 food trucks you definitely should try!
You’ll see them parked at festivals, races, and all kinds of events. Friday’s are a big day for Food Trucks. A lot of places host Food Truck Fridays like Armored Cow Brewing in the University area.
Come to think of it, you don’t have to wait for an event to taste the mouth-watering street fare! You can find Food Trucks most days parked all over town. You just have to know where to look. Charlotte loves their food trucks so much there’s a whole Facebook page dedicated to them!
Charlotte’s got all kinds of truck food: burgers, Mediterranean, Asian, vegetarian. Sweet Lews BBQ recently announced they are adding a food truck to the mix. The names are as varied as the food they serve. Gotta love @anotherfoodtruck, though, for poking fun at the trend with their name (For the record, the Dirty Mac with braised beef hits the spot)
One of my personal food truck faves is The Dumpling Lady. Well, it was. The truck was so popular they opened a restaurant inside Optimist Hall by the Parkwood entrance, and for now, the truck isn’t operating. I’m keeping it on my list though in hopes the truck eventually returns!
Romeo’s Vegan Burgers
One of the newest trucks to hit the Charlotte food scene, this plant-based food truck has developed an almost cult-like following for its burgers, shakes, fries, and cookies…. All VEGAN.
Try this:
- Where art thou Romeo burger: house sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, cheese, pickles
- Chili cheese fries: cheese, vegan chili, onions.
- Oreo plant-based shake.
You can find their next spot on Instagram.
Yummi Banh Mi
The star of this truck is the Vietnamese sandwiches on a baguette served with garlic mayo, cucumbers, pickled carrots and daikon, and jalapenos with a choice of meat.
Try it with:
- BBQ pork or lemongrass beef
They also serve rice bowls and tacos.
Donut I Love U
Charlotte’s food truck scene has plenty of sweet options too like this (@DonutIloveu) one that has gluten-free options.
Try this:
- Chocolate Covered Salty
- American Pie
Who says donuts are just for breakfast? Actually, if anyone says that they need to stop. Immediately.
Yappy Hour Bakery
Yes, there’s even a food truck for your DOG! The mobile dog treats float all over Charlotte up to the Lake Norman area.
Try this:
Ok, we haven’t actually tried any of these (and dogs can’t actually talk…) but we do like the names for the treats, like
- Sauvignon Bark
- Bark Island Iced Tea
- Cheese Cosmo
If you want to celebrate your dog with a special occasion, they have cakes shaped like all kinds of things such as bones and fire hydrants.
The way I see it, Food Trucks are just another great reason to get out and walk around the vibrant neighborhoods around Charlotte, grab a bite and make a new friend or meet up with an old one.
It’s summer, and that is delicious!
