I love it when my favorite things collide! News recently broke that Brightwalk, a great neighborhood in Charlotte’s North End, received its LEED Neighborhood Development certification!
The LEED rating system is extremely important to me. LEED is short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The system was developed by the US Green Building Council as a program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
A total of 70 acres of the 98-acre Brightwalk community received the designation. Plans for Brightwalk consist of single-family homes, townhomes and apartments, as well as new retail, walking trails and streams. Development of the community started in 2009 and are scheduled to be completed in 2018.
According to the Brightwalk website, this neighborhood is “an environment for those who care about the environment, where green space is as important as living space and increasing your happiness footprint is a given.” This new designation just goes to prove that the developers are fully standing behind this statement as the community comes together.
