If you’re a Charlotte native, chances are you’re very familiar with NC-based Krispy Kreme. If you’ve moved here from elsewhere, chances are you know Dunkin’ Donuts. But you know me – I’m not one for big chains like these. I want local! So I’ve rounded up a list of local spots for donuts in Charlotte!
Joe’s Doughs – Started as a pop-up shop in NoDa in 2014, Joe’s Doughs is OFFICIALLY opening their own storefront this Saturday! The new storefront is still in NoDa, on North Davidson Street next to Abari.
Pepperbox – Still new and still in the pop up phase, Pepperbox hopes to have a storefront by the end of the year. Follow them on Facebook to find out where they’ll pop up next!
Sugar Donuts – Sugar started as a food truck that could be found at many Food Truck Friday events around Charlotte and Matthews. They grew to be so popular that they opened a brick-and-mortar store located in the Ballantyne area.
Your Mom’s Donuts – Located on Monroe Road in a small strip mall near the intersection of Highway 51, Your Mom’s is a farm-to-table donut shop. Flavors change weekly, and are updated according to what’s in season.
Duck Donuts – OK. So technically this one is a chain that started at the Outer Banks. But they’ve just opened a location in Dilworth, and word has it that their fresh, made-to-order donuts are amazing!
Move That Dough Baking Co – I saved the best for last, in my opinion. Move That Dough is owned and operated by my friend, Kacie Smagacz. Vegan donuts and desserts are her specialty. You can find her wares at Central Coffee in Plaza Midwood and at a variety of pop-up shops around town. Follow her on Facebook or her website to find out where she’ll be!
Have I missed your favorite local donut shop? Let me know about it. In the meantime, though, get out and try these fabulous local spots!
