Friendship Market recap by realtor Cassie CunninghamDo you like to do good for the community but find it hard to find the time?  Friendship Market may be just what you’re looking for then.  All you’ve got to do is show up and eat!

Friendship Market is the new cafe serving up healthy dishes, as well as free WiFi.  According to Friendship Market’s website: “At Friendship Market, we believe in daily-made pastries, homemade sandwiches & salads, and seasonal soups.  We believe in locally roasted fair-trade coffee.  Above all, we believe that each plate pays it forward.  When you visit our cafe, 100% of the proceeds go to providing meals-on-wheels to Charlotte residents in need.”

All proceeds from Friendship Market benefit Friendship Trays, Charlotte’s meals-on-wheels nonprofit.  Friendship Trays feeds hundreds of people per day.

Aside from the great cause the cafe serves, the story behind Friendship Market is pretty remarkable.  The staff cobbled together the interior – tables, magazines, music and all – from their own belongings.  Local chef Tom Landers, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate and personal chef, prepares the food with the help of the staff-in-training from the Friendship Trays industrial kitchen.  The menu will change according to what’s fresh and in season, but the prices can’t be beat!  Entrees and salads are $6.00 each, pastries and desserts are $1.50 or $2.00.  Prepackaged items are also available for takeaway.

Friendship Market is located in the historic SouthEnd area at 2401-A Distribution Street.  It’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 2pm.  Visit soon…and help out your community!
